Sam aims for a shot at the Union Barista Championship 2015
If you’re popping in for coffee today, make sure you wish our brilliant barista Sam all the best as he prepares to take part in the battle of the baristas tomorrow!
He’s off to London with manager Becs to take part in the Union Barista Championship in London tomorrow, Friday 9th October. This annual competition sees some of the most talented young baristas in the country vying against each other to carry off the title and be named best barista.
Sam’s been a star behind the bar ever since he first came to the Fleece, first doing a Saturday job while he was at college and now being one of the full-time team. In just a few short months, he’s made the spot behind the coffee machine well and truly his own, brewing up cup after cup of perfect coffee. Everyone really loves his coffee, saying what a great start to their day it is! They’re also wowed by his latte art, asking for more weird and wonderful designs by the day.
He’s also become a bit of an expert, learning about where the different beans come from, where they are grown in the world and about the stories of the people behind them. So when he was on a training course with our coffee suppliers Union Coffee and found out about their annual competition, he naturally jumped at the chance.
Since then, Sam has been busily getting ready for the challenge, which will see him having to tell the judges what he thinks makes the perfect espresso and then prepare and serve one to them. He will also have to make two perfect single shot cappuccinos and explain what flavoured syrups go with them, and then his signature speciality drink. It’s going to be show stopping for sure!
As well as the excitement of travelling down to London to take part, if he wins he’ll come home with the title of best barista, a place on a diploma course to help him perfect his skills and a supply of free coffee.
